History

The dinosaurs used to walk the Earth, Henry VIII was the 8th King called Henry, but... that's history.

The Semantics were formed in approximately 1996 as a typical pub band with a bunch of mates, who had all done their time playing in different bands and gigs over the years.

Members of the band at that time included... Neil Dimond, who said his grandfather played on the Titanic. He claims they went down very well. Richie Jones, who went on to record with Bluecoup and also writing and playing in the Welsh Jazz Orchestra, and Andy C, who had played in the infamous band "Dozy" with Danny Chang and Paul Rosser (Watermelons, Racing Cars). This included a gig at the Roundhouse London. Jim Morrison, if he were alive, would have been proud to have known that he played on the same stage as Dozy. Those of you who followed Dozy, we have you on file and can blackmail you at any time. Also played on HTV programme JAM with NightRider, featuring Kim Styles and Danny Chang.

Members came and went, and have included Jason McDonagh (Blue Horses), Matt Cohen (Magenta), Bill Henry (Finley Quaye) and Alun Rogers (Albert Lee).

The current line up consists of Andy Coleman (Dozy/NightRider), Kim Styles (NightRider/Sub Zero), Alun Rogers (Albert Lee/The Cadillacs), and Chris Black (Too Many to Mention).

The aim is still the same, that is; play some gigs, doing mainly covers and other originals, and recording originals as fundraisers for M.I.N.D. The sales of albums and associated fundraisers have so far risen to over £22,000.
